Kate Marsden

Kate Marsden, b. 1978, lives in South London. She is a West Sussex born/London based artist, with a background in Fashion & Textile Design and Surface Pattern Design. Her mixed media paintings, drawings and prints are the result of many years of experimentation alongside her more graphic, illustrative design based work. Kate paints everyday items and objects, and is increasingly inspired by the natural world and the abstraction of it. A desire to alter the viewer’s perception of her subject matter has long been her desired outcome, whether this be via the subversion of a traditional subject, or the beautification of something considered to be ugly or undesirable. Kate’s work can be seen in private collections as well as commercial commissions including at the refurbished South London arts centre, Fairfield Halls. Her fabric designs have graced a wide range products and have featured in both national and international press. Kate has seen her work featured at the Royal Academy of Arts as part of their RAted range of up and coming British designer/makers, and is a winner of Theo Paphitis’ #SBS (Small Business Sunday). Kate’s work has recently been exhibited in a range of shows with Carshalton Artists and Oaks Park Artists and she is a member of the Oaks Park Printmakers Group. Kate is a member of ArtCan and Sprout Arts. She is also an active member of Carshalton Artists, and provides social media consultancy for them and local arts group Arts Network Sutton. She also teaches printmaking and other art and textiles based classes.
