Melanie Potter

Melanie Potter is a contemporary, multimedia artist originally from South Staffordshire, England. Now residing in the southern English county of Devon and studying Fine Art as a mature student with Plymouth College of Art. Melanie’s underpinning motivation for her practice is centred around trying to understand her own experiences, behaviours and beliefs as a woman and then exploring these within wider cultural, political and social meanings. Navigating towards themes of gender, power, identity and the female experience. She embraces feminism as the lens through which she experiences the world around her. She uses and exploits the haptic and semiotic connotations of historically feminine materials and processes to represent the physical and emotional manifestations of living and being complicit within a patriarchal society. Drawing however is the underpinning of all of her work and what she naturally gravitates towards. It has been her cathartic process that has allowed her to explore her fascination with the body and the relationship towards her own.
