Ready to invest in yourself and your career?
Why sign up?
There are many different reasons you could benefit from a mentor. Some of the reasons might include:
You would like some individual feedback on your current studio work, advice on taking your work in a new direction, or medium-specific support from an artist who has knowledge and skills in a particular area.
You would like help to step into your practice as an emerging artist, or to return after a career break and are not sure where to begin.
You need help with the business aspects of being an artist, such as funding applications, writing artist statements, updating a CV, creating a website and marketing your work.
You are feeling stuck and need support to rediscover your creative spark.
You need some accountability in order to start a new project, or complete something you are working on.
The Details:
Spilt Milk’s Mentorship Programme includes 6 hours of face to face sessions (online) at times and dates agreed between you and your mentor, as well as written follow ups. The timeline is flexible to your own needs and could be 6 hourly sessions over 6 months, shorter sessions over a more intensive period, or spread out over a longer time frame. The programme is designed to offer individual feedback and guidance over a prolonged period to allow a positive and trusting relationship to develop. No matter what stage you are at with your work, there are many different reasons you could benefit from a mentor. Whether you need critical engagement and feedback on your current work, help with the business aspects of maintaining a successful practice, or support to get unstuck and reignite your creative spark, your mentor will tailor the programme to your needs. Upon signing up, we will ask for your top three mentor choices and a little information about what you hope to achieve from the programme. This will help us to match you with the right mentor.
Cost:
The mentoring programme costs £390 and can be paid in instalments. This ensures our mentors are paid fairly for their time and any surplus generated will go toward our funded places. If we are able to offer funded places for this round, this will be announced in January.
What previous mentees have said:
“Lucy has really helped me focus and organise myself, and to realise what is important to concentrate on as I have s tendency to get sidetracked. “The programme has been an invaluable experience for me. It's the first time I've worked with a mentor, and it has been an amazing source of support over the past few months as I navigate new areas of my work. I've already achieved some of these goals set in the sessions and I don't think that would have been possible without the programme.” - Lauren Bryden, (Mentored by Shweta Bist in 2022).
“It's been amazing for my confidence as an artist to have somebody else to share my processes.” - Barbara Touati-Evans (Mentored by Michelle Gallagher in 2022).
“After just one session I gained so much clarity and focus, and was able to finish pieces over the course of the last couple of months and also write my artist's statement about my work, gaining much more clarity and confidence over my direction and style I also have a plan in action for the future and what I would like to achieve.” - Kate Cameron Reid, (Mentored by Jill Skulina in 2023).
“It felt really good and really affirming to talk and share with someone who was a practicing artist and who could relate to my story and my path.
