This piece was made in response to PLOT by poet and author Claudia Rankine. PLOT is a complex meditation on pregnancy and the changes it heralds: the potential bodily cost, the loss of self, the sense of impending stasis. The piece was chosen by Claudia to be exhibited alongside other works at Chelsea College of Art in 2023 marking the re-launch of her book.

This piece is part of an ongoing investigation into the darkness of childhood. Society normally projects a fetishised and saccharine view of this time of our lives, is this true? Is this helpful? Childhood is filled with wonder and innocence but it can also be scary, children can be harsh and unfair. I search for ways of representing this ambiguity and exploring the reality of what it is to be a child and also a mother, re-experiencing childhood through her daughters.
