Rest As Protest - Self Care Scarf (Lavender Dreaming)

Photographic Print, 21.5 x 30. 5 cm.

£200

One of a series of Self Care Scarfs which acts as wearable artwork to filter and soften the world as well as signal to others that the wearer has a need to practice self care. This work is part of my ‘Rest As Protest’ project - a movement developed as part of my Arts Council England DYCP funding 2022 -2023. The work is inspired by my own lived experience as a disabled and neurodivergent artist. Delving deeper, this movement seeks to explore whether the acts of Resting, Slowing Down, and Doing Less can serve as an antidote to the pervasive culture of consumerism and hyper productivity. By proposing a shift in perspective, it aims to foster healing and inclusivity, especially in the cultural sector. Notably, it examines how artists with disabilities and those with caregiving responsibilities can sustain a meaningful and holistic art practice. In essence, the aims of the Self Care Scarfs are to offer a softening of the edges of the world and encourage a more balanced and inclusive art world.
